June 8, 2016

A 37-year-old Patoka man is in custody at the Marion County Jail on weapons charges following an initial traffic stop for speeding. Steven Schaher of South Locust is being held for driving on a revoked license, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm without a valid fire owners ID card, and illegal possession of ammunition.  State Police stopped Schahrer on U.S. 51 near the Ferrydale Road.  After he was arrested for speeding and driving on a revoked license, an inventory of the vehicle before towing allegedly turned up a loaded 9 millimeter Ruger Pistol and 28 rounds of ammunition.  Schahrer was also allegedly found in possession of a pair of brass knuckles.

21-year-old Jonathan Ritchey of Rural Shobonier was arrested at the Marion County Probation Department on outstanding Marion County traffic and ordinance violation warrants and a Fayette County warrant.

23-year-old Caleb Webster of Radio Tower Road in Salem posted $500 bond after turning himself into the Marion County Jail on an outstanding Marion County felony warrant.

A car stolen from Linnie Hixenbaugh of McCord Street in Centralia on Sunday has been found by its owner at a residence on the Tonti Road in rural Sandoval.  So far no arrests have been made.

A rural Salem resident apparently scared off a person who was preparing to enter her home.  Judy Garrett of Maplewood Avenue told the Marion County Sheriff’s Department she was sleeping on the couch when she heard the front door open.  When she asked who was there, the person shut the door and never came inside.  She watched the person get into her son’s pickup and leave, possibly with the keys to the truck.  Garrett last saw the man heading north on foot where a gray hoodie and blue jeans.
