Fire damaged the rear storage area of Maximum Tan at 431 South Poplar Street early Monday night.

Centralia City Firemen say they got a quick knock down on the fire that was confined to the storage area where lawn mowers and a number of other items were stored.   Once the ceiling collapsed in the storage area, firemen were able to get to the fire in the attic with few problems.  Part of the east wall of the building had to be removed.  Firemen estimate the fire was contained in 15 to 20 minutes.

The storage area is likely a total loss. The main business area of the building sustained only heat and smoke damage.   The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The business is owned by Jeff Bonner.

Customers who were tanning heard some pops and then were told to get out of the building because it was on fire.  Smoke was rolling out of the rear of the building and flames were shooting out the backdoor as firemen arrived.  Firemen also had to dodge sparks coming off the electric line that was on fire behind the building until it burned off.

All available firemen were called to put out the blaze.  No injuries were reported.

The fire call came in at 5:50 Thursday night.
