Three Injured in Two Vehicle Crash South of Sandoval

July 25, 2016

Three people were injured in a Friday night crash on US 51 at the Red Stripe Road south of Sandoval.

State Police say the crash occurred when a southbound pickup driven by a 16-year-old Sandoval male juvenile made a left hand turn in front of a northbound van on US 51 driven by Charles Smith of Odin.  After impact, the juvenile’s pickup spun around counterclockwise about 180 degrees and traveled north about 100 feet in the east ditch before coming to a stop.  Smith’s van ran off the right side of the roadway upon impact, spun clockwise approximately 180 degrees, and came to final rest on the east shoulder of U.S. 51 facing south.

Both the 16-year-old juvenile and a 15-year-old male juvenile from Sandoval, who was a passenger, in the pickup, were both taken by Sandoval EMS to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment.  Smith was transported by Life Star Ambulance to St. Mary’s for treatment of his injuries.  The juvenile driver was ticketed for failure to yield when making a left turn and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

The wreck occurred at 8:22 Friday night.
