Bond has been set at $500,000 for a 23-year-old Salem man who was formally charged in Marion County Court Friday with attempted first degree murder along with four other felony offenses.

Xavier D. Goostree of North Broadway in Salem was formally charged with attempted first degree murder along with four other felony offenses. Goostree is accused of entering the home of Michael Bartley on South Walnut in Salem and attacking Shannon Reed, who is identified as a former girlfriend.

Salem Police say Reed had come to Bartley’s apartment to get away from Goostree and pushed his way inside before Bartley could get the door shut, resulting in the home invasion charge.   Goostree was also charged with aggravated domestic assault and domestic battery for allegedly strangling Reed, slamming her head into a television, and biting her on the face, neck, and back.

Goostree was also charged with aggravated battery for pushing Dorinda Castellari, grabbing her, scratching her face, and hitting her in the stomach twice with his knee, knowing that she is pregnant.  Castellari had earlier tried to break up the altercation between Goostree and Reed.

A 911 call reporting the incident was made at 6:34 Thursday morning.

Public defender Matthew Chancey was appointed to represent Goostree.
