Three Teens Injured in Tonti Road Crash

August 15, 2016

Three 16-year-old female juveniles from Salem were injured in a one car crash late Saturday night.

State Police say the wreck occurred on the Tonti Road just west of the Edgewood Road northeast of Salem.  Preliminary information indicates the driver was eastbound on the Tonti Road at a high rate of speed when she lost control while traveling across a bridge.  The car then left the northside of the roadway and collided with a tree.  The car came back onto the roadway, where it came to a stop pointing northwest.

All three were taken to Salem Township Hospital after medical helicopters declined to come to the scene because of the stormy weather. State Police have not released the names of the three juveniles involved.

Salem Fire Protection District Firemen were called to the scene because of a report of the vehicle being on fire.  Any fire had apparently been put out before their arrival, but firemen put additional water on the vehicle.   Fire officials say there was no entrapment.

The driver was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and for being a Graduated Driver’s License Holder with Too Many Passengers in the Vehicle.

The crash occurred at 11:30 Saturday night.
