Farmers State Bank Robbed in Central City

Two people are in custody followed an armed robbery early Friday afternoon at the Central City branch of the Farmers State Bank. Their names have not yet been released.

Central City Police say about one pm a man entered the bank, displayed a weapon, and left with an undisclosed amount of money.

Centralia police spotted a vehicle they believed might have been involved in the armed robbery. When they tried to stop the vehicle, it fled south bound through Centralia on Poplar Street reaching speeds of 110 miles per hour.

At one point, the chase detoured through a cornfield before coming back onto the roadway. The chase then proceeded down the Dix-Irvington Road. The vehicle left the roadway once more and came to a stop near the Fouts Christian Church.

A female passenger was taken into custody around the vechicle. The man fled on foot through a field.

A K9 unit joined police from Jefferson County, Centralia, Irvington, Wamac, Central City in the man hunt. The man was eventually taken into custody without incident after one of those in the man hunt saw him crossing a field.

Central City Police say neither suspect or anyone at the bank was injured.
