Centralia Police Officer Visiting Home When Woman Tries To Gain Entry

August 28, 2016

Luck wasn’t with a 22-year-old Centralia woman who tried to get inside the home of an elderly Centralia woman on Friday.

Melanie Scerba of Brookside Avenue was trying to gain entry to a home on the 700 block of South Sycamore where a Centralia Police Officer was visiting his mother-in-law. The officer watched as Scerba made several attempts to open doors on the home and made an attempt to remove a statue in the back yard that was too heavy for her to pick up.

The officer called for assistance from Centralia Police to make the arrest for criminal trespass to land. Scerba denied trying to get into the home when the officer informed her he was inside watching everything she did.

Scerba was taken to the Marion County Jail where she remained Saturday.
