Kaskaskia College Cosmetology Students Stay Busy Serving Community

September 8, 2016

The Kaskaskia College Cosmetology Department is committed to doing community service and during the month of August, the students and instructors have been busy serving the community.

Recently the students visited Eternity Baptist Church in Centralia for Back-to-School Cuts. The KC students offered free haircuts to kids getting ready for the start of school.

Students Jenifer House of Breese and Victoria Ulmer of Gilbertsville, LA recently visited the Bond County Health Department and offered chair massages and express manicure services to the Breastfeeding Support Group.

The department also visited Odin Grade School to perform head lice checks on students in kindergarten through 6th grade. This experience allowed students to become familiar with what head lice looks like and how to correctly and discreetly check for it.

The students also volunteered August 29 and 30 at the American Red Cross Blood Drive held in the Lifelong Learning Center at Kaskaskia College. Students assisted with promotion, sign-ups, registration, lunch preparation and serving.

Instructor Kelli Malone says, “The entire cosmetology department is proud of the community service our students do for the area. The students not only assist area students and families but also gain experience in helping others”.
