15-Year-Old Juvenile Arrested for Aggravated Attempted Kidnapping and Aggravated Assault

September 11, 2016

(Update 8 pm)

Centralia Police say a 15-year-old Centralia juvenile boy has been charged with aggravated attempted kidnapping and aggravated assault following an incident where he allegedly grabbed a nine-year-old girl walking to Willow Grove Grade School.

Police say the white male ran up and grabbed the girl near the South Brookside and 7th Street intersection around 8:15 Friday morning. When the mother began to scream at the suspect, he let her go and ran south on Brookside.

About two hours later, a caller notified Centralia Police of a subject walking near 4th and Pullen wearing the clothing described by the witnesses and broadcast over the police radio. Police made contact with the subject and ultimately detained the 15-year-old and transported him to the police department. The suspect was positively identified by witnesses and was taken to the Madison County Jail juvenile detention facility pending the filing of formal charges in Clinton County Court.

Willow Grove Superintendent Dave Fults says the girl was running late and other students were already in the building. He reports the girl lives near the area where the incident occurred and her mother was still watching her from their home when the attempted abduction occurred.

Fults says Willow Grove Grade School immediately went on lockdown, but had a regular school day until the all clear was given. Many other Centralia Schools also went on lockdown until around 11 am when police announced they had a suspect in custody.
