Centralia Fire District Fights Grain Dryer Fire

September 16, 2016

Centralia Fire Protection District firefighters had to remove 15-hundred bushels of grain from an elevator east of Centralia to put out a smoky fire.

Chief Greg Earle says the fire was in a continuous flow grain dryer at the Loepker Farms grain bins on Route 161 and Byers Road. A neighbor noticed smoke around seven Thursday morning and called firemen.

Earle says they extinguished the fire as the grain was unloaded. The process took more than four hours to complete. In addition to the grain, there was some damage to the dryer itself.
