Salem Grade School Renovation Draws Positive Comments

September 18, 2016

Parking was at a premium and lines long as Salem Grade School opened Hawthorn and Franklin Park schools Thursday night for an open house and grandparents night.

It was the first chance for the public to see the $2.2-million dollar renovation at the two schools over the summer.

Superintendent Leslie Foppe greeted many of the visitors.

“Well it has been very exciting. We had a line all the way to the fence around the school to come in. People are excited to see the renovations we did. The kids were excited. They were showing their parents the new bathrooms, the new hallway and new offices. We’ve had former employees, people who have retired, who came back to see the changes,” said Foppe. “The responses have been very positive. Everybody loves the layout we have created with the secure entrance with the office up front now. They love the school colors and school spirit that is all over the place from the ceiling to the floor.”

At Franklin Park, in addition to new bathrooms the hallway lockers were painted red and the entire gym redone with a refinished floor and new bleachers.
