Two men arrested following police chase with firearms located

October 4, 2016

CENTRALIA — An attempted late-night traffic stop in Centralia resulted in a brief car and foot chase with Centralia police Sunday before two suspects were arrested.

According to reports, a Centralia police officer attempted to stop a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the McCord Street overpass just before midnight Sunday.

The driver failed to stop and the situation quickly turned into a pursuit, with the suspect vehicle driving the wrong way on both North Poplar and North Elm streets.

The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Keenan Parson, of Marion, along with passenger, 23-year-old Todd Lee, of Cairo, ultimately fled from the vehicle when it struck the porch of a home in the 600 block of East Kerr.

Police quickly blocked of an area where they knew at least one of the suspects would be and he was taken into custody after being found a short time later hiding behind a house.

The second suspect was later spotted walking down the street. He again attempted to flee, but was quickly captured.

While searching the area for the subjects, officers reportedly located a 45 caliber handgun and a shotgun they say were dropped during the foot pursuit. More than 150 grams of cannabis, as well as ammunition were found during a search of the vehicle.

Both men were taken to the Marion County Jail,  where they await the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
