Belle Rive Woman Identified as Victim in Fatal Two Vehicle Crash

October 7, 2016

A 33-year-old Belle Rive woman was killed in a two vehicle crash on Illinois Route 142 west of Lamp Light Lane in Jefferson County late Tuesday night.

State Police identify the victim as Lea Boykin.

State Police say preliminary investigative details indicate Boykin was eastbound when a westbound pickup driven by 18-year-old Chance Grein of McLeansboro crossed the center line of the roadway and struck Boykin head on. After the impact, Grein’s vehicle rolled over, came to rest in the roadway and caught fire. Boykin’s car traveled off the road after impact.

Boykin was pronounced dead on the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner. Grein was transported to a regional hospital with major injuries.

Grein was ticketed for improper lane usage.

The crash occurred at 10:30 Tuesday night.
