Salem Man 1 of 3 Hurt When 7 Motorcycles Crash in Williamson County

October 22, 2016

A Salem man was one of three injured in a pile-up of seven motorcycles in Williamson County Saturday afternoon.

State Police say a group of motorcycles was northbound on Illinois Route 148 at the Grange Hall/Interstate 57 southbound entrance ramp when the lead motorcycles slowed due to turning traffic. Motorcycles further back in the group were following too closely and failed to perceive the slowed motorcycles ahead of them. The seven cycles then began piling up and ejecting their riders.

One of the cyclists, 27-year-old Kyle Hohman of Salem, was transported via ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Also injured was 35-year-old Jason Dart of Whittington and 28-year-old Erica Robinson of Benton. Dart, a driver, and Robinson a passenger, were also transported to local hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The other drivers who were not injured included 46-year-old Jeffery Cariens of Mt. Vernon, 53-year-old Steven Volini of Benton, 47-year-old Gregory Hipp of Waterloo and 27-year-old Corinna Hipp of Waterloo.

State Police say none of the riders were wearing helmets.

The crash occurred at 3:27 Saturday afternoon.
