Centralia High School Board Discusses Distinguished Alumni Honorees

October 29, 2016

The annual Centralia High School distinguished alumni assembly is set for next week, and Principal Reid Shipley told the school board Thursday night three graduates will be honored during the assembly.

The honorees are psychologist Dr. Shelvy H. Keglar, blues singer Mark Womble (who performs under the name Cory Stevens) and Tony-nominated Broadway playwright Chad Beguelin. The assembly and ceremony is open to the public, and set for 1:40 p.m. next Friday afternoon in the Centralia High School arena.

Shipley also said that renovation work in the cafetorium is set to begin soon, probably before the next board meeting.

As another part of his monthly principal report, Shipley reminded the board that eighth grade testing for area feeder schools is set for Nov. 2 and 3. Surrounding schools are scheduled for Nov. 2, and City Schools are set for Nov. 3.

The fall CHS blood drive is scheduled for next Thursday at the high school, according to CHS Student Council Secretary Colton Albers, who added that the drive has been described as “one of the most successful” drives in the area. He added that the drive is open to the public, and that the drive will run from about 8:10 to 2 p.m.

In personnel matters the board accepted the resignation of Shirlene Tomes as an Annex aide effective Oct. 7; and Dion Jones as a part time cafeteria worker effective Oct. 25. The board moved to employ Jerry Atchison as a part-time custodian effective Oct. 24; David Jack as a part-time bus driver Nov. 7; Ronald Sheets as a part cafeteria worker Oct. 28; Kristen Stedelin as post-prom coordinator for the 2016-17 school year; and Natalie Higgerson as a volunteer assistant cheerleading coach for the 2016-17 school year.

The December board meeting was changed to Dec. 20 at 4 p.m.
