Fire Heavily Damages Centralia Home

November 5, 2016

A Centralia home was heavily damaged by fire Saturday morning.

Nicole Kirgan of 622 South Hickory was not home when smoke was discovered coming from the home by a paper boy. When firemen arrived, they found fire coming out of a portion of the home and smoke filling the rest.

The fire was confined to the living room and the front porch area, but there was heavy smoke and heat damage to the rest of the home. The fire never broke through the roof or any of the walls of the home.

Damage is estimated at $45,000 to the home and contents.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be a pre-lighted Christmas tree that had been set up and turned on just before Kirgan and her family left the residence. A State Fire Marshal will review the scene to try and confirm the cause.

All available Centralia City Firemen were called in to help battle the fire. The initial call came in at 6:01 Saturday morning, with firemen on the scene for about three hours. There were no injuries.
