Mt. Vernon man gets 4-year sentence on burglary plea deal

December 1, 2016

JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 28-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced Wednesday in Jefferson County Court to 4-years in prison, after he pleaded guilty to residential burglary.

Joshua B. Elliott was charged August 18, with two counts Class X home invasion, Class 1 residential burglary, and Class 4 domestic battery. He pleaded guilty to the Class 1 charge in exchange for the other charges being dismissed.

According to court records, on August 16, Elliott entered a home in the 300 block of Caborn Street and stayed inside the home until people returned home. He then allegedly threatened to cut two people with a knife.

Elliott was arrested in the St. Louis area and was transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where he has remained since his arrest.
