Centralia Man Receives Prison Time For Chase That Ended with Swim

December 15, 2016

A 21-year-old Centralia man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty in Marion County Court to aggravated fleeing and eluding police.

Destrian Doza of Brookside Avenue is accused of leading Salem Police and Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies on a chase through Salem that eventually went out of town. It ended on the Green Street Road in Central City when Doza lost control and struck a pole. Doza then ran on foot and swam across a creek with chest high water while a sheriff’s deputy followed. Once across the street, deputies caught up with Doza and took him into custody following an altercation. Salem Police had initially tried to stop the vehicle because Doza had allegedly taken it without permission from his girlfriend’s home.

A charge of resisting arrest was dropped as part of the plea.

Once Doza is released from prison, he will have to serve one year mandatory supervised release. He was also ordered to pay court costs.
