Salem Police Arrest Two on Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop

December 15, 2016

Driving without headlights Wednesday night has landed two in the Marion County Jail on drug charges.

Salem Police say they initially stopped a car driven by 30-year-old Candice Cano of County Farm Road in Salem on South Broad at Sanger for not having headlights. After Canine Freddie alerted on the car, the vehicle along with Cano and a passenger, 39-year-old Patrick Keef of East Milan in Mt. Vernon, were searched.

Cano was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance after she was allegedly found in possession of a meth pipe and what field tested as cocaine.

Keef was initially arrested for possession of a controlled substance after he was allegedly found in possession of cocaine. Marion County correctional officers added a charge of bringing contraband into a penal institution after cocaine was allegedly found in his wallet while he was being booked into the jail.

Both are expected to have bond set when taken to court for the first time Thursday.
