Two Centralia Residents Arrested for Residential Burglary

December 15, 2016

Bond has been set at $50,000 apiece in Marion County Court Wednesday morning for two Centralia brothers who have been arrested for a residential burglary last month at a Centralia home.

24-year-old Michael Ballard and 37-year-old Eric Ballard, both of West Green Road, were taken into custody following questioning by Centralia Police on Tuesday night where they allegedly admitted their involvement in the burglary at the Cindy Sellers home on East Nolemen in Centralia.

Sellers reported the burglary to police on the evening of November 3rd when she returned home to find her back door kicked in and her safe missing. Video from St. Mary’s Hospital showed a vehicle parking in the Doctor’s office parking lot across the street from Sellers’ home and a man going up to the house twice. While the video wasn’t good enough to identify the man, it was good enough for Sellers to recognize the vehicle as belonging to Eric Ballard who was a family relation.

Police found the two and brought them in for questioning Tuesday night. Eric Ballard allegedly admitted driving to the Sellers home for his brother Michael who told him he needed a certificate out of the house. Michael Ballard admitted forcing open the back door with his shoulder and taking the small safe that he later opened with a hammer. When apparently not finding what they wanted, the safe was thrown out a window.

Michael and Eric Ballard had the public defender appointed to represent them and were ordered to have no contact with Sellers if released on bond. A preliminary hearing for both was scheduled for January 3rd.
