Centralia Man One of Three Arrested Following Chase in Kentucky During Homicide Investigation

January 22, 2017

A 20-year-old Centralia man is one of three arrested following a Kentucky police chase on Friday that occurred as police were investigating the shooting deaths of two men in Morganfield, Kentucky.

The Henderson, Kentucky Gleaner newspaper reports Joevionte Simms of Centralia along with 19-year-old Clarence Smith of Danville were arrested immediately after the chase from Morganfield to Henderson. A third, 21-year-old Keyontae McGuire of Morganfield, scaled a fence at a school and evaded police until he was taken into custody early Saturday morning.

Henderson, Kentucky Detective John Nevels told the newspaper he couldn’t say if the three are suspected of being linked directly with the shooting. The two who died in the shooting have been identified as 33-year-old Cesarrae Rapier and 28-year-old George Black, Junior.

Simms and Smith are both being held for wanton endangerment of a police officer, resisting arrest and fleeing or evading the police. Smith, who was the driver, faces additional charges of reckless driving, disregarding a traffic signal and possession of marijuana. McGuire is being held for disorderly conduct, fleeing or evading police on foot and a probation violation.
