Centralia Police Investigate Two Incidents of Children Being Lured to A Vehicle

January 28, 2017

The Centralia Police Department is conducting an investigation into two reported incidents of children being lured to a vehicle by a stranger while walking home from school.

Lieutenant Greg Dodson says in both cases the description of the person involved is the same. They occurred at two different city grade schools while students were walking home. In one case the student approached yelled stranger danger and ran. The other was followed for a distance. Dodson said they are concerned about the aggressive nature to lure the child into the vehicle.

Dodson says at this point of the investigation they are not releasing the description of the man or vehicle.

The Police Department has made contact with all area schools and are having them notify the parents of all students. Central City Police and Wamac Police are taking similar action.

Anyone having information regarding a child being approached by a subject in this manner is asked to contact the Centralia Police Department immediately.

The Centralia Police Department will be continuing it’s investigation into this matter and actively patrolling the areas around the schools where these reports have been made.

The department is asking all parents to speak to their children about Stranger Safety and the importance of telling an adult if they are approached.
