Governor Sends Letter to State Workers Promising to Fight for Their Paychecks

January 28, 2017

Governor Bruce Rauner says his administration will use all legal options available to make sure state employees get paid.

In a letter to state workers, Rauner said they will fight the lawsuit over paychecks and make sure services aren’t disrupted.

“This is going to hurt hard working families, the good hard working employees of Illinois, who deserve to be paid and deserve to keep working,” said Rauner. “The people of the state need to have our State employees continue working.”

Rauner fears the suit could derail ongoing negotiations over the proposed “grand bargain.”

“I hope this is not a direct attempt to cause a crisis to force a shutdown of the government to force another stop gap spending plan as a step to force a tax hike without any changes to our broken system,” said Rauner.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan is asking the court to remove an order that makes sure state employees keep getting their paychecks despite the budget stalemate.
