February 8, 2017

A 71-year-old Woodlawn man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday in Jefferson County Court to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault.

Charles Sanders admitted to committing a sexual act with a child under the age of 13. Two other counts of predatory criminal sexual assault were dropped as part of the plea.

Sanders will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence or about 25.5 years on the Class X felony charge. In addition to the prison time, Sanders will be on mandatory supervised release for three years to life and will have to pay a $1,000 fine.
