Iuka Grade School Closes Friday Due To Influenza and Strep Throat Outbreak

February 10, 2017

Iuka Grade School Superintendent John Consolino says the school will be closed Friday as they try and break the cycle of Influenza and Strep Throat moving through the school.

Consolino says 68 out of the 214 students were out Thursday due to illness. The number has been growing, with 43 out Tuesday and 54 on Wednesday.

While Influenza A and B have been reported along with Strep Throat, the largest percentage of students have Influenza A.

Consolino says the district will be taking measures to disinfect the building all day on Friday.

In addition to the student absenteeism, several staff members are battling bronchitis and the flu since last week.
