Rural Texico Home Destroyed in Late Friday Night Fire

February 19, 2017

A rural Texico home was destroyed by fire late Friday night.

Jefferson Rural Firemen say Eddie Burke and his wife were home at the time and got out safely. Firemen say the home at 16,369 Breezeway Road just east of Toll Lane had flames shooting through the roof upon their arrival.

While the home was gutted and had the roof burn off, firemen were able to help the Burke’s get some of their personal belongings out. The fire was so hot it jumped six feet to a 30 by 40-foot workshop building that was also heavily damaged by fire. A four wheeler and van parked near the double-wide mobile home also burned.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Kell firemen provided mutual aide, bringing a tanker and pumper to the scene.

Firemen first received the call at 6:50 Friday night. The fire was under control by eight pm. Firemen remained on the scene until 10:35 pm.
