Bond Set at Half-Million Dollars For Man Who Was Subject of Weekend Man Hunt

March 9, 2017

Bond has been set at $500,000 for a 35-year-old rural Iuka man who was formally charged in Marion County Court Wednesday with home invasion and residential burglary following a Sunday incident that set off a manhunt in Southern Marion County.

Jason White was eventually arrested without incident at a home in Centralia early Tuesday morning.

The home invasion charge is a Class X felony. It claims the offense was committed while White was armed with a gun.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies indicate that White had obtained the homeowners handgun after entering the residence and at one point had even pointed the gun at the homeowner. He eventually gave the gun back to the homeowner before leaving the residence south of Cartter on foot.

During the manhunt that followed, sheriff’s deputies were uncertain if White had any other weapons. He did not have any in his possession at the time of his arrest.

White had the public defender appointed to represent him, with a first appearance and preliminary hearing scheduled for March 28th.

White is also wanted on outstanding warrants in Richland, Effingham and Marion Counties and is a convicted sex offender.
