Two Centralia Men Arrested for Armed Robbery of Two Salem Men

March 16, 2017

Two Centralia men are being held in the Marion County Jail for the alleged armed robbery of two Salem men that occurred in a vehicle near Hickory and Broadway in Centralia late Tuesday night.

20-year-old Harrion Hawkins of North Maple in Centralia is being held in the Marion County Jail for armed robbery and aggravated discharge of a firearm. 20-year-old Austin Jones of South Cherry in Centralia is in custody for armed robbery and possession of a firearm.

The two are accused of robbing 22-year-old Jacob Hayes of East Lester and 22-year-old Chris Hill of East Mitchell in Salem.

Centralia Police say the incident occurred after Hayes and Hill, while in their car, stopped to talk and Jones and another man later identified as Hawkins got into their car. Hawkins reportedly saw Hayes’ money when asking for cigarettes. Hawkins then allegedly pulled a gun and gave Hayes five seconds to give Hawkins all the money he had. Hayes allegedly refused, saying he wasn’t going to do it, and began struggling with Hawkins over the gun. In the process, Hayes reported $350 was stolen along with the keyes to their car.

After getting out of the car, Hawkins allegedly fired a shot into the backseat of the vehicle.

Some witnesses also indicated Jones had a gun as well as a ski mask.

In the meantime, an area resident who saw two men in ski masks thought something suspicious was going on and called police. They found a suspect vehicle, but didn’t know of any crime that had been committed. As the car was being released, Hayes and Hill walked up to the officer to say they had been robbed.

Police were able to locate the car again and questioned all the occupants. Only Jones was arrested from those in the vehicle.

Harrison was allegedly found walking nearby and ran when seeing police. He was taken into custody by another officer a few minutes later.

Police says there were no injuries. Neither weapon reportedly involved has been recovered.
