Vacant Centralia Home Receives Heavy Damage to Rear of Structure

March 19, 2017

A fire that is listed as suspicious in nature caused heavy damage to the rear of a vacant home at 1012 Case Street in Centralia late Saturday morning.

All available Centralia City Firemen were called in to fight the fire at the home owned by Gregory Marcum of Walnut Hill. The fire started in a back room of the home and spread to the kitchen area, but was knocked down before it could breach the roof or move into the front portion of the home. There was smoke damage throughout the home. The home had been empty for about a year and a half and there was no furniture inside. Marcum told firefighters he had plans to remodel the home.

A State Deputy Fire Marshal was called in to try and determine the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.

The fire call came in at 10:38 am with firemen on the scene for about two hours. A neighbor initially spotted the fire when coming home from the store.

The Centralia Emergency Services and Disaster Area assisted Centralia Police with traffic control.
