JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 2011 Jefferson County murder case has incurred another delay after the defense attorney for 24-year-old Mark Taylor Jr. withdrew from the case Tuesday.

Due to an apparent conflict of interest, defense attorney Paige Strawn withdrew Tuesday from a case charging defendant Taylor in connection with the shooting death of 75-year-old cab driver Charles Ellis.

Taylor is charged with three counts first-degree murder for the 2011 botched robbery near the intersection of Sixth and Bell streets.

Taylor is next scheduled in court April 10 for a status hearing. His April 18 jury trial date has been vacated.

Demandre Black, who is one of three other men charged with Ellis’ death, pleaded guilty in October 2015 to aggravated battery with a firearm and was subsequently sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Christopher Wells pleaded guilty in 2012 to first-degree murder but before he was sentenced he withdrew his guilty plea and the case is still pending.

Damondros James pleaded guilty to felony murder and is scheduled to be sentenced April 7.
