Irvington Man Charged with Reckless Homicide

April 1, 2017

A 35-year-old Irvington man has been charged in St. Clair County Court with reckless homicide following a March 10th crash in Belleville that resulted in the death of a Belleville woman.

Bond for Steven Conklin has been set at $100,000. In addition to reckless homicide with a motor vehicle, he was charged with driving on a revoked license and obstructing justice.

The wreck resulted in the death of 36-year-old Amelita Milburn. She died from injuries sustained in the crash on Mascoutah Avenue a few hours after the crash.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports when the charges were being read to Conklin at the St. Clair County Courthouse on Thursday, he fell to his knees and cried.

The public defender was appointed to represent Conklin, even though Conklin said he didn’t need a lawyer.
