Rural Mt. Vernon Man Being Held on $500,000 Bond for Aggravated Battery to a Child

A 30-year-old rural Mt. Vernon man has been charged in Jefferson County Court at Mt. Vernon with a Class X felony offense of aggravated battery to a child under 13 causing permanent disability.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s officials say they arrested of Ronald Phillips following a child being brought to Good Samaritan Hospital on March 31st that their emergency room staff suspected was a victim of shaken baby syndrome.

A warrant was issued for Phillips in the amount of a half-million dollars following an investigation by the sheriff’s department, DCFS and the Jefferson County State’s Attorney’s office.
