Salem Man Leads Police on Lengthy High-Speed Chase

April 10, 2017

A 47-year-old Salem man was being held in the Marion County Jail for aggravated fleeing police and speeding after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase Saturday night.

Alma Police say Clinton Zimmerman of West Spruce did not resist arrest when the chase that began on Route 37 in Alma finally came to an end when his vehicle became stuck off the Bowman Road southeast of Patoka.

Reports indicate after seeing the Alma Police officer running radar, the man later identified as Zimmerman sped up to 62 miles an hour. The chase then wound back through Alma and north on Illinois Route 37 at speeds of 100 miles an hour. The driver eventually turned off Route 37 and went through a field where the Alma Police car became stuck.

The car was later located by Kinmundy Police on Seven Hills Road and the chase began again until Zimmerman became stuck and was taken into custody along the Bowman Road.

A passenger in the vehicle was also questioned but released without being charged.
