Two Breese Men Hurt in I-70 Crash Near Altamont

April 21, 2017

Two Breese men were injured when their truck ran off Interstate 70 two miles west of Altamont Wednesday morning after being struck by another vehicle.

State Police say preliminary investigative details indicate an SUV driven by 45-year-old Fernando Soto of Hartford, Connecticut was traveling eastbound passing a truck driven by 63-year-old Dennis Huelsmann of Breese when Soto crossed into Huelsmann’s lane and hit the front driver’s side tire.

The impact caused the Huelsmann vehicle to run off the south side of the roadway, strike the ditch, and roll over. The truck eventually came to rest sitting upright on its wheels. Soto’s vehicle came to a stop on the south shoulder of the interstate.

Hueslmann and a passenger, 25-year-old Eric Becker of Breese, were both transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham for treatment of injuries.

Soto escaped injury. He was ticketed for improper lane usage.

The crash occurred at 6:30 Wednesday morning.
