Car Destroyed by Fire in Driveway of Salem Home Friday Morning

April 22, 2017

A car sitting in the driveway of the Angela Hughes home at 528 North Marion Street in Salem caught fire Friday morning.

Salem Fire Chief Roger Mann says the engine compartment was fully engulfed in flames upon their arrival. Their major concern was to keep the fire from spreading to the nearby home. They were able to do so and also kept the fire from spreading out of the engine compartment.

However, Mann says the 2000 Chevrolet will be a total loss. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Firemen were on the scene for about a half-hour, beginning at 10:10 Friday morning.
