Two Crashes on Route 140 in Fayette County Result in Three Injuries

April 23, 2017

State Police say there were injuries in two separate single-vehicle accidents on Illinois Route 140 in Fayette County Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Two Vandalia residents were injured when a pickup truck ran off the highway a half mile west of Fayette County Road 600 E at 8:15 Saturday morning. Preliminary details indicate 40-year-old Ferrell Kissiar was travelling westbound on Illinois Route 140 when he slowed down due to a curve and lost control. The pickup went off the right side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned. The pickup came to a stop in a field approximately 30 yards off the north side of the roadway.

Both Kissiar and a 14-year-old male passenger were taken to the Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia for treatment. Kissiar was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

In the Friday evening crash, State Police say 55-year-old Cora Jackson of Vandalia ran off Illinois Route 140 a quarter mile east of Hagarstown. Preliminary reports indicate she lost control, crossed into the eastbound lane of traffic, and then hit a concrete bridge barrier with the passenger side of her car. Jackson was entrapped in her vehicle and was extricated by the fire department.

Jackson was initially taken by ambulance to the Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia and then flown to a Springfield Hospital via Air Evac. Jackson was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. The crash occurred at 6:23 Friday night.
