April 29, 2017

A 25-year-old Mt. Vernon man was injured when his car crashed into a stopped vehicle in front of him on Route 37 near Merz Vault Company south of Salem just before noon Thursday.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say Jason Taylor of Lambert Avenue may have fallen asleep before he crashed into the rear of a vehicle driven by 63-year-old Gary Hampton of Lakeshore Drive in Salem. Taylor was taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of injuries. He was also ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Hampton was not injured.

Salem Fire Protection District Firemen were called to assist. They report both drivers were out of their vehicles on arrival. Firemen assisted in the cleanup. The crash occurred at 11:44 Thursday morning.
