Motorcyclist Injured in Car-Cycle Crash in Mt. Vernon

May 7, 2017

A 36-year-old Kidder, Missouri man was injured Friday afternoon when the motorcycle he was driving was struck by a car merging onto I-57 at the Veterans Memorial Drive exit in Mt. Vernon.

State Police say the car driven by 46-year-old Gerald Mullins of Marion struck the side of the motorcycle, causing it to fall onto its side and eject the driver Nathan Pease. Pease, who was wearing a helmet, received major but non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital and then flown to a regional hospital via medical helicopter.

Mullins escaped injury. He was ticketed for failure to yield while merging.

The two southbound I-57 lanes were closed for about 30 minutes for crash investigation and scene cleanup.
