Investigation Into Domestic Battery Leads to Arrest of Mt. Vernon Man on Multiple Charges

May 14, 2017

A Mt. Vernon man has been arrested on multiple charges after struggling with Mt. Vernon Police trying to take him into custody Friday morning on a domestic battery charge.

Jamie Damron is being held in the Jefferson County Jail for alleged domestic battery, resisting and causing injury to an officer, criminal damage to state supported property, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of cannabis and possession of drug equipment.

Mt. Vernon Police say they learned enroute to the domestic battery in the 500 block of Main Street that the offender, later identified as Damron, had left the scene in a vehicle. A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at the IGA gas station. While investigating the domestic battery, Damron allegedly attempted to walk away from officers. They ordered Damron to stop and he reportedly refused their commands. He was taken into custody following a brief struggle with several officers.

During a search of Damron, a loaded stolen firearm, cannabis, and drug equipment were located on him. A couple of officers sustained some minor abrasions from the struggle. A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department squad car was also damaged.

Further investigation led to the recovery of another firearm at an apartment where Damron had been previously. Damron has prior felony convictions in Missouri.
