Kidnapping Charge Dropped Against Farina Man In Return For Guilty Plea in Criminal Damage Case

May 20, 2017

A 34-year-old Farina man has had a Class X kidnapping charge dismissed against him after pleading guilty in Fayette County Court at Vandalia Friday to felony criminal damage to government property.

Darrell Moulton will be sentenced on the open guilty plea on June 22nd.

The non-custodial father was arrested in July about seven hours after he took his nine-year-old son from a home in Vandalia without permission. The boy was not injured. An Amber Alert had been issued to try and help locate Moulton and his son.

Moulton has remained in the Fayette County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond since his arrest.

Moulton was later charged with two counts of criminal damage to government property for flooding his jail cell with insulation and R-board ripped from a wall. He pled to the charge claiming $500 to $10,000 damage, with a second count for damage under $500 dropped.
