Two Arrested on Drug Charges After Driver Flees on Foot from Traffic Stop

May 22, 2017

Two people are in custody at the Marion County Jail after being arrested on felony charges following a traffic stop and foot chase.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say the driver, 24-year-old Kyle Berry of Nelms Street in Centralia, was arrested for resisting a peace officer, possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and driving on a revoked license. A passenger, 18-year-old Cheyenne Morris of Camp Street in Iuka, was arrested for possession of under five grams of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies say Berry allegedly ran from the car he was driving during a traffic stop on Julia Drive in the Southern Gardens Shopping Center. After running through the mobile home park, Berry was reportedly pulled to the ground as he tried to enter one of the residences. Deputies say the weapons charges are a result of a loaded 25 caliber handgun being found in his car.

Morris was arrested after a drug pipe with what field tested as methamphetamine residue was found mixed into some clothing in the vehicle.

The incident occurred on Saturday.
