May 23, 2017

A 56-year-old Bluford motorcyclist died Sunday from injuries sustained in a crash in downtown Mt. Vernon.

Mt. Vernon Police identify the cyclist as Frankie Belmont. He was pronounced dead after arrival at Crossroads Community Hospital.

Belmont’s cycling collided with a car driven by 81-year-old George Loker of Keenes at the Main and 13th Street intersection. Reports indicated Loker had stopped at the stop sign while southbound on 13th Street and proceeded into the intersection where he was struck by Loker, who was traveling west on Main Street. Loker was ticketed for failure to yield at a stop intersection.

Belmont was ejected from the cycle following impact and landed face down on 13th Street.

Loker and a passenger in his car were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital via private vehicle for treatment.
