Mt. Vernon woman arrested for DUI after fiery crash sends 5 to hospital

JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 35-year-old Mt. Vernon woman is in the Jefferson County Jail on multiple DUI-related charges after

the car she was driving early Saturday morning was involved in a single-vehicle crash that sent five people to the hospital with injuries.

 

Margret B. Stewart is charged with aggravated DUI, reckless driving, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, and illegal transportation of alcohol.

According to sheriff’s reports, around 12:41 a.m. Saturday, deputies were dispatched to the 14000 block of County Farm Lane for a car on fire. Upon arrival, deputies reportedly found a car on its top. The car had rolled an unknown number of times breaking a mailbox and a utility pole. Deputies located five injured people who were all transported by Litton’s ambulance to local hospitals.

Stewart was subsequently arrested and remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bail set at $20,000.
