$450,000 in Improvements Planned for County Roads Crossed by New Oil Pipeline

June 16, 2017

Marion County Highway Engineer Mike McCormick says work is scheduled to begin Monday on improvements to sections of the Brubaker, Bee Branch and Tonti Roads.

Energy Transfer Pipeline Company is providing $450,000 for the improvement as part of a road use agreement when the new pipeline was installed from the Patoka Oil Tank Farm to the Johnsonville area.

McCormick says the sections of road to be improved are Brubaker Road from Route 37 to Kinmundy Road, Bee Branch Road from Shufelt to Keller Roads, and portions of Tonti Road between Currie and Kinmundy Roads.

He reports Howell Paving of Mattoon and Dunn Excavating of Decatur are combining efforts on the project that will include ‘chewing up’ the existing pavement, respreading it, and then applying a seal as well as an oil and chip surface. McCormick says the end result should be a much smoother road.

The work will begin Monday and could take up to two weeks to complete.
