Salem Police Make Arrest in Vehicle Burglaries

June 20, 2017

The Salem Police Department has arrested a 17-year-old Salem juvenile male and is looking for a second person in connection with a rash of recent vehicle burglaries.

Salem Police Chief Sean Reynolds says their break in the case came when the owner of a car discovered the two teens inside his vehicle in the 400 block of South Marion Street at 11:14 Sunday night.

Reynolds says by the time officers arrived the two had exited the vehicle, but were still in the area on their bikes. Both fled police. One was apprehended while the other got away.

Reynolds reports the juvenile who was apprehended had items reported from several vehicles in the backpack he was wearing. He says the department is still seeking owners for some of the recovered items. Reynolds is fairly certain the two teens were involved in the multiple vehicles on the city’s northwest side earlier this month.

The 17-year-old was released to a parent pending a court appearance. Police are continuing to look for the other person who got away.
