Death of Soldier From Wayne City Stationed at Fort Hood, Texas Under Investigation

U.S. Army officials say Pfc. Devon James Tucker of Wayne City was found unresponsive June 15th at his off-post residence near Fort Hood, Texas.

A release from the U.S. Army indicates Tucker’s death is under investigation by the Copperas Cove, Texas Police Department. They identify Tucker as an indirect fire infantryman who joined the Army in January 2016. He arrived at Fort Hood in May 2016 and was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from August 2016 to February 2017.

Tucker had earned the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and NATO Medal.

Tucker is described in his obituary of having a passion to serve and protect, even as a young boy he wanted to serve in the military. He was also described as liking to help others in any way he could.

Funeral Services will be held at one Saturday afternoon at the Orchardville Church in Orchardville, with visitation from ten until the time of the service on Saturday. Members of the U.S. Army Honor Detail will conduct Full Military Honors at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to Devon Tucker and Christian Marvel Scholarship Fund.
