July 4, 2017

Two people have been sentenced to prison in Clinton County Court. 31-year-old Chad E. Hilbert of Carlyle was sentenced to 6 years for various drug charges. Clinton County State’s Attorney John Hudspeth says Hilbert pleaded guilty on May 10th to three counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and one count of unlawful possession of a hypodermic syringe. Hilbert had no prior felony convictions and requested probation. However, Hudspeth says selling heroin warrants the sentence he received.

A 29-year-old man Odin man was sentenced to five-and-a-half years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for violating his probation in a 2016 Retail Theft case. Walter H. Williams had previously pleaded guilty to stealing various tools and components from the Centralia Buchheit store and was placed on probation. Hudspeth filed a petition to revoke probation in May and prestented proof at a sentencing hearing that Williams possessed methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, along with a traffic arrest for driving on a revoked license.

Hudspeth thanked the Carlyle Police Department, Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, Centralia Police Department, and Illinois State Police Crime Lab for their assistance on the two convictions.
