Two Injured in Roll Over Crash on I-57 South of Salem

July 23, 2017

Two people were injured when a van ran off southbound I-57 five miles south of Salem early Saturday morning.

Preliminary information from State Police indicate 33-year-old Shawn Stanford of Woodridge dozed off and ran into the center median. When he woke up, he overcorrected and re-entered the roadway. The van then overturned one full rotation and came to rest on its wheels on the right shoulder.

Stanford and passenger 34-year-old Charita Lawson, sustained laceration and were transported to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. State Police say the three children in the van, ages 2,3, and 7, were not injured, but were transported to the hospital as well.

Stanford was cited for improper lane usage and driving while license suspended.

The crash occurred at 2:50 Saturday morning.
