Centralia City Council Approves Adding Former Meadowoods Country Club to TIF District

July 26, 2017

The Centralia City Council has unanimously approved adding the former Meadowoods Country Club to the Raccoon Lake Tax Increment Financing District.

Developer Greg Sutton of Tech Services told the city council he is awaiting engineering studies to finalize plans on what he called a beautiful piece of property.

“We do have plans initially to look at low density, moderate to high-end housing in the community. There could be the opportunity as well for some mixed commercial and residential based opportunities there as we look at the layout of the property and what value we could bring in community development here in the community.”

Sutton promised to work with the city as plans for the development move forward.

A few neighbors were in attendance at Monday night’s meeting, but none spoke against the proposal. A number of area residents expressed opposition at a public hearing before the last meeting.

Mayor Tom Ashby noted the property wasn’t initially included in the TIF district because golf courses were not an eligible use.

City Manager Dan Ramey noted at the public hearing he doubted the project would move forward without the benefits the TIF district provided. He said the project would increase the city’s property tax base and provide much needed new housing.
