Centralia Man Arrested For Allegedly Striking Man With His Own Pickup Last Week

July 26, 2017

Centralia Police have arrested a 20-year-old Centralia man in connection with an incident last Friday where a man was struck by his own pickup when trying to stop a burglary in progress.

Police report Jonathan Acuff was arrested early Monday morning when allegedly caught in the process of stealing another vehicle. Acuff has been arrested for aggravated battery, leaving the scene of an injury accident, theft, and reckless driving in connection with the incident last Friday where he allegedly struck Joshua Heern in the 500 block of North Beech. He’s charged with two additional counts of theft for allegedly taking a car owned by Branon Buchannan of West Broadway and driving it around the corner where he was allegedly caught trying to switch license plates.

Police say after Heern was struck on Friday, one of two people he said was trying to take his truck drove it across the street where it struck a pole and then ran into a house occupied by James Felton. Heern went to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital on his own for treatment of minor injuries. No one in the home was injured.

Acuff allegedly admitted to driving the vehicle taken from Heern. Police have not identified a second person who was with him at the time.

Acuff was taken into custody after being questioned by a Centralia Police Officer on routine patrol who determined the car involved had been stolen.
